Long time back I had read this story from Akbar Birbal stories, which read something like this
Akbar once asked Birbal whom do you think any one would like the most on earth? Birbal immediately replied "One own self". Akbar was not ready to accept it & he argued saying probably the mother & child relationship breaks your agrument. A mother loves her kids the most. Birbal didn't argue anything at that moment. But nevertheless he wanted to prove his point. So next day when he walked into the palace, he had 2 monkeys (a mom monkey & a baby monkey) & a big tub, which can be used to fill the water. Then, initally he placed both the monkies in the tub & started pouring the water slowly. Till the water reached the dangerous level for the baby monkey, both the monkies enjoyed playing in water. Then, as the water level increased, mummy monkey tried to protect the baby by placing the monkey on its head, so that the baby is safe. Mummy monkey protected the baby monkey till the water level reached its threshold. In other words, till the water reached the face of the mummy monkey, it was trying to protect the baby monkey. But when the water level rose & it started hitting mummy monkey's face, it immediately took the baby off its head, put the baby down & stood on it, so that water level was with in the threshold. This short, but true story proved Birbal's point. Yes, one love their own self the most than anyone else.
I am not saying Human beings are as selfish as monkey mentioned above, but I also know, they are no good :)
There is no one on this earth that you love more than yourself. You love yourself first, then comes all others. This includes loving parents, kids, spouse, friends...name them & they will all be loved, but none will be loved like yourself. Whole world is like this. But again selfish ME part in us, won't allow to even accept it because of selfishness & the ego. Selfish me is always trying to prove, I am good. I am different. I am not like others. So yes, I am not selfish :) But again all this is a selfish motive.
Selfish me is always active till our last minute. Working mother for example, would leave her kid back at Day care even when the baby cries his/her heart out trying to convey that he/she is not interested in going to day care & it truly needs the time from Mother. But Selfish mother still drops the baby to day care & convinces herself saying baby will be fine after few minutes when I am out of sight. After all, I am working for our own kids. Is the mom working for kids or for her own self? It is definitely for her own self in most of the cases if not in all cases. It is for her own selfish motive. Money Money & Money. You see Money can buy lot of luxurious, materialist things. Yes, there is a selfish me there...People may not accept it again because of selfishness !!!!!
I always think, there is only 1 thing in life which is always true...It is the thought of I, ME, MYSELF. Age, sex, location, reason nothing matters. It is always I, ME, MYSELF which works like a magic. Do you agree with me??? Ask your selfish me with in yourself before answering anything :)
What Shubha...what made u write this blog... what happened to u...
ReplyDeleteI agree that sometimes or rather most times, we love oneself and there is always a Selfish ME...
But I could also see that u have written this blog out of frustration...dont know may be I am wrong may be I am not, but just commenting here
Hey Harsha...Sorry had not checked my blogsite for sometime. No I had not written out of frustration. But I wrote it just 'cos I wanted to write it.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like I was frustrated. Well, may be I should word them better next time & will do it.
Thanks for the comment Harsha
Honestly, I can’t agree to your thoughts on Selfish ME. If you are in a lifesaving situation will you try to save yourself or your kids? Birbal may be right about monkeys, but don’t think he is right about sensible humans. I would rather think of this as Selfish WE– being selfish about ME and my soul mates - instead of Selfish ME.
